As the festive fervor for Durga Puja begins, the Sarvajaneen Durgotsav Committee of Ghorapi in Malda has taken a unique approach to educate the younger generation about the significance of radio. In its 27th year of hosting the puja, the committee has chosen "Akashvani-Doordarshan" as its theme.
The budget for this endeavor is estimated at around Rs 5.5 lakh, and the puja mandap is adorned with vintage gramophones, radios, audio cassettes, record players, old TVs, and images of legendary radio artist Birendrakrishna Bhadra, Doordarshan news anchor Salma Sultan, and other notable figures associated with radio and Doordarshan.
Kamal Ghosh, Secretary of the Ghorapi Public Durga Festival Committee, explained that they aim to engage visitors by transporting them to a nostalgic era. Their puja mandap's design revolves around the relics of old gramophones, radios, and various vintage broadcasting equipment. Over the years, the committee has consistently captivated audiences with creative puja themes, and this year's "Akashvani-Doordarshan" theme is expected to resonate with the sentiments of many, fostering a deep appreciation for India's broadcasting heritage and traditions.
